Founder’s Story

Polaris Writing grew from a desire to give students thoughtful guidance, practical writing skills, and preparation for the writing demands they encounter at every stage — from foundational classroom work to advanced courses, external assessments, and university applications.

Years spent teaching English and academic writing—in classrooms and online, with students in the United States and around the world—have deepened my appreciation for the thoughtful rhythm of rigorous, student-centered learning.

Writing gives students a way to test an idea, make purposeful choices, and communicate with clarity and conviction. I have seen students grow when a challenging assignment becomes an opportunity to clarify a point of view, strengthen an argument, and recognize their own capability.

I have helped thousands of students build stronger writing skills, earn meaningful academic results, and pursue exciting next steps. I want to help your student do the same.

Hands of people with different skin tones stacked together in a gesture of teamwork and support.

“I was lucky enough to have Ms. Malone as my teacher years ago, and she’s genuinely one of those teachers you remember long after you leave the classroom. Writing didn’t always come naturally to me, especially when it came to organizing my thoughts and putting them into words in a clear and structured way. Ms. Malone had a way of breaking the writing process down and making it feel much less intimidating. Over time, I became more confident not only in my writing, but in my ability to communicate my ideas clearly.

What I appreciated most was her patience and encouragement. She truly cared about her students and took the time to help you understand how to improve rather than simply correcting what you did wrong. I’m a physician now, and although my writing looks a little different these days, being able to organize my thoughts and communicate clearly is still an important part of what I do every day. Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for the foundation she gave me, and I couldn’t recommend her enough to any student looking to become a stronger and more confident writer.”

“I had Ms. Malone for English in high school, and she was one of the first teachers who made me feel that my creative instincts were worth trusting.  Her interest in poetry also got me into poetry, and it changed what I attend to in sentences and was a foundational brick in my interest in minimalism not for the sake of minimalism, but as a way of creating intensity. More than anything, I remember her warmth and the feeling that she genuinely believed in what her students could become. With her, the world felt like an open playground.”
